Government to continue giving living allowance to fishermen

BACHOK: The Federal Government will continue to provide RM200 a month in cost of living allowance to more than 55,000 fishermen nationwide next year.

Deputy Finance Minister Senator Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin said an allocation of more than RM230mil had been made in the 2012 Budget for the purpose.

“It (allowance) should have ended this year, but due to the government's concern for the fishermen, it continues to set aside the allocation for the purpose,” he told reporters after opening a programme for fishermen here yesterday.

He said the allocation included RM5mil for 2,800 fishermen in Kelantan - Bernama.
